Bungie's Marathon Trilogy Download

Bungie Studios has finally released the Marathon Trilogy as freeware. Don't think that this is meant to be a complaint, it is meant to say that the moment a generation of Marathon fans has waited for has joyously arrived. Now a new generation of gamers can see what the hell it is that we have been raving on about for the previous 10 years. Marathon is truly the game that wouldn't die and Bungie has graciously put that in writing! Feel free to download these legally available copies of one of the finest games ever to grace a computer.

These games require Mac OS 6.0.5 or later and play just fine in OSX Classic. In addition, these games are playable in OSX, Windows or Linux via the open source Aleph One project. You can play Marathon 1 in OSX via M1A1 <--= (This version has the new MML in it to make sure you don't join incompatible games in net games). Windows gamers can play M1A1 too! Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity can be played in OSX by dropping the Aleph One app into the respective folders and launching Aleph One, then setting the preferences to look at the correct files.

For a complete guide to using Aleph One in the OS of your choice, check out this extremely handy Aleph One Guide by Mark Newland.

All files below are in stuffit format. Marathon is copyright 1994-present Bungie Studios, all rights reserved. Files are freely downloadable, but are not open-source. Bandwidth provided by the Battle Cat's Litterbox, feel free to link to these files. Enjoy Marathon goodness and spread it far and wide.

Marathon Infinity Marathon Infinity takes the closed universe of the Marathon series and blows it wide open. This multi-faceted product begins with "Blood Tides of Lh'owon", a new 20 level scenario sporting new textures, weapons and aliens. More than that, the scenario sheds a surprising new light on the story's characters and the meaning of events. having defeated the Pfhor and reawakened the ancient remnants of the S'pht, the player now faces a world where friends become enemies and all is not what it seems...
Forge v1.0.3 For the first time Infinity makes available Bungie's own map editor, "Forge", which gave birth to the Marathon Universe. Powerful and easy-to-use, with a real-time texturing mode, Forge puts the power to create Marathon Maps into Players' hands. Patches available here.
Anvil v1.0.3 Using Bungie's all-in-one tool "Anvil", Infinity allows players to create and modify the data files of the game, changing graphics, sounds and even physics models to suite their tastes. Now each level can use different physics, which gives the playing environment much more variability and challenge than previously possible. Patches available here.
