8-31: The last of the Marathon 1 utilities is up now. The page isn't quite finished though. I need to dress it up some and of course, if you find any utilities or editors that I've missed, or especially newer versions for Marathon 1 (some newer versions apply to Marathon 2 or Infinity) then send me and email and tell me off. For now, visit the Marathon 1 section of the Utilities and Editors at the Battle Cat's Litterbox.
8-30: To quote The Thing from Marvel comic book's The Fantastic Four, "It's clobberin' time!" Team SETI uses it's super powers (derived from alien births, radiation accidents, mutant spiders and magic rings) to fight evil doing competitors in the SETI@home search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Last week 206 caped and costumed baddies were rounded up and tossed into the Team SETI Phantom Zone. Termie likes to stand in the Fortress of Super Dupers that dominates the landscape of the Hobbies department and push the big red button that swallows them up.
8-27: OK, well... this never fails. I add a new section to the web site and forget to reprogram the menus on the main page or add it into the Site Map. Today this is fixed, look for the Marathon Utilities item and sub menu in the Marathon pull down menu on the home page and it's doppelganger in the Site Map. The only thing that sucks more than getting old is watching all of you younger people running around remembering things.
8-26: You Marathoners are about to benefit greatly from the new server the Battle Cat's Litterbox is on. Introducing the Marathon Utilities section. With the new online disk space and bandwidth I am able to host all the Marathon editors and utilities there are. This is a big job and I've started on Marathon 1. They are not all there yet but this is a good start. The design of the pages is a work in progress but they are functional.
8-25: Go with the president of the NRA, Kayne B. Robinson, on a hunt for the infamous Alaskan Brown Bear! It is happening now on the President's Column in the NRA section of the Extra department. Davey Crockett kilt him a bar when he was only 3, it he had Kayne's Ruger .375 maybe he could have kilt it when he was only 2 and a half!
8-24: The Battle Cat's Litterbox is updated today with a link to DcBob's Marathon@Forerunners page that I created and which he inherited from me after I stopped maintaining it. DcBob (Jóhannes Gunnar fiorsteinsson) is an old school Marathoner and a great guy that has ice in his veins and a SPNKR rocket with your name on it. I couldn't think of a better person to take over running that site. Look down at the bottom of the page for the Lh'owon Links.
8-23: Team SETI managed to fall behind 362 competitors last week as one of the last two weeks saw the computer down. Still, we did manage to produce 20 units in the week we were up. We have some making up to do so pardon us if we don't waste any more CPU cycles on typing. Check it out in the Hobbies department.
8-13: I found an article about antibacterial salas in an issue of Science News. Although this is not specifically about chili peppers, it IS about salsa and I have a recipe for salsa in the Chili Peppers section so I think this news article has relevance to the subject of chilies. Although it is heartening to see an ingredient of salsa as an effective bacteria killer, it is absolute poetic justice that the Salmonela are bathed in pure liquid hellfire agony from the capsaicin as they are choked lifeless by the cilantro. That's what I call teamwork! The Chili Facts page in the Hobbies department is the place to be.
8-12: A Google search goes onto Gary's Web Building page today, making it possibly the last place to put one on this site. I might put one on the Chili Pepper page. I'll have to think about that, check to see how much that section of the web page gets used in my server reports. But now I'm just thinking out loud... Mustn't think out loud. D'oh I'm still doing it!
8-11: "The Radical left hates what George W. Bush represents - beliefs that rightfully may be called 'Reaganesque.' It is the belief that what makes America great is its people, not its government." Read the Wayne LaPierre's column, Standing Guard, in the NRA section of the Extra department and watch him flesh those statements out.
8-10: The Battle Cat's Litterbox is the next House of Wacks department to harvest the benefits of this new server. A Google search is added today that will be very helpful for Marathon scenario creators looking for specific information in the vast library of Forge, Anvil and Obed tutorials. This is something I wanted to do from the start of the Litterbox but was frustrated by the way Earthlink handled it's users web sites.
8-9: Hey Termette snapped out of it and started checking SETI@home in the mornings. Nothing like a little good old fashioned public humiliation to set things straight! (Note to self: humiliate wife in public more often, seems to work) Team SETI leaped ahead of 133 competitors even though we only did 16 units. It seems some units are tougher than others. We're not complaining today no sir, no sir. Check out the continuing Team SETI results on the SETI@home page in the Hobbies department.
8-6: Aerianne Connor's Marathon based web page is added to the Lh'owon Links section of the Battle Cat's Litterbox today. Aerianne's page has lots of bits of information about the Marathon Trilogy that is a valuable asset to someone new to Marathon or just plain curious as to what it looks like. Included are the names and images of various enemies from each version of the game, the chapter screens featuring the art work of Craig Mullens and some interesting terminal graphics. Hopefully Aerianne will continue to update the page.
8-5: Because of the terribly slanted nature of the "news" you only hear about cases where guns are used illegally by criminals or to harm innocent people. You never hear about the multitudes of cases whereby the use of a firearm by a law abiding citizen saved lives or protected the innocent. Studies indicate that firearms are used more than 2.5 millions times a year for legal personal protection, and that the presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instances. Read newspaper accounts of some of these instances on the Armed Citizen page in the NRA section of the Extra department.
8-4: Today we start reaping the benefits of being on a REAL server rather than just a blip on Earthlink's virtual DNS list. Now that webwonks.org actually points to a specific IP, I can do a number of new things, one of which is incorporating a Google search into the web site, one that searches the webwonks DNS specifically. So take a gander at the bottom of the home page and look for the Google search box. Try it out, the more folks use it the better it becomes. Need to find something here that you were looking at before but can't find anymore? Use the Google search to locate it. Need to find something quick on the web? That search is included too. Cool stuff courtesy of the House of Wack and Google.
8-3: The DSL is starting to pay off for Team SETI. We managed to pull off 20 units this last week tying our all time high. In the process 284 competitors met their doom in the cold harsh vacuum of space. I'd like to give a big "THANK YOU!" to Termette for her unswerving devotion to making sure that SETI@home was running and crunching it's next unit without pause. I'd like to... but I CAN'T! The lazy bum thinks it's all automatic now and she never checks it in the morning any more. The BUM! You can view the Team SETI results in the Hobbies department.
8-2: A new month! A kinder and gentler new month. A new month without all the Earthlink and the file transferring and the page referrals. Now that I have some room to breathe on this new server with 500Mb of space and 80Gb of bandwidth I'll be looking into adding some new stuff as opposed to working to limit it. Today though you will just have to settle for a joke as my web building time has been allocated to changing the site over for a new month. There is a good joke though on the Joke of the Weak. Enjoy, more tomorrow.
