Archived News for the Month of November 2002

New this Week:

11-28: Happy Thanksgiving! ...whether you celebrate this American holiday or not, it's a good time to be thankful for what you have and to count your blessings.

"I have never understood why anyone would roast the turkey

  • shuck the clams
  • crisp the croutons
  • shell the peas
  • candy the sweets
  • compote the cranberries
  • bake the pies
  • clear the table
  • wash the dishes
  • fall into bed exhausted

when they could just as easily sit back and enjoy a hamburger or a pork sandwich."

- The Turkey

11-27: No news is good news... well that is unless there is nothing to tell you... I guess you can go read the Joke of the Weak. Sorry, has been keeping me way to busy to stay on top of the House of Wacks.

11-26: The House of Wacks has exceeded 150 thousand visitors. On Thursday, we had over 500 visitors! These are actual individual people whose IPs were tracked by Earthlinks Urchin reporting system. The hits are even more abundant, in the millions, as a single visitor can generate a multitude of hits. A hearty House of Wacks "Thank you!" to everybody who has trampled on this hallowed ground!

11-25: The SETI page over in the Hobbies department is updated. The House of Wacks wishes the other half of Team SETI, my wife, a Happy Birthday!

11-22: I have added a new web site link called "Dynamic Drive" to the JavaScript section of the web building links over on the Web Building page. I found out about this place doing a project for, a website I co-founded. Check it out and look for the little space ship module to wander around the page. That movement is from a JavaScript script I got from Dynamic Drive. Be forewarned, there is a sound that automatically plays, so if you are at work, turn down your sound if it is a problem. Make sure you have JavaScript turned on or it won't work.

11-21: Well I go and update the Marathon department a couple days ago and I discover a bunch of links to my old Apple iDisk account that I abandoned because Apple wanted to charge me twice for it. I have fixed the links and now you will find that Hastur's Workshop, the Killing Time tutorials and Mark Levin's Anvil Guide are all functioning once again. Also I noticed that Bungie's link to their Infinity manual was down for a day so I added an alternate link to that file.

11-20: The message to vote is a belated one but not one to dismiss. Your American Bill of Rights is under attack by the left and that attack will not let up just because an election is over. It takes a constant attention to details and events and participants. You can read some of the details of it in Wayne LaPierre's column, Standing Guard, over in the NRA section of the Extra department.

11-19: What possible connection could manly men, vaporware, Dorkiepooters, mice, Pappy Smurf and the Marathon Theta Error have in common? In a word, "Quartz". Only this legend of a man could bring all these disparate subjects under one roof. Go see how this could possibly be and while you are there, read a terrific explanation of the Marathon Theta Error in a NEW tutorial on Quartz' revamped and improved tutorials page, Quartz' Quarry. This is all happening on the Battle Cat's Marathon Page in the Anvil Tips department.

11-18: When I get my new fast CPU chip, this constant sliding in the SETI rankings is going to stop for a while. Until then go visit the carnage on the SETI page over in the Hobbies department.

11-14: A friend of mine gave me this link and we had fun most of the day on Hotline trading URLs of some of the funnier pages at this site. This is a site dedicated to English slaughtered by some of the finest foreigners on Earth. Look for at the bottom of the Humor section over on the Lynx page.

11-12: The reason for the message is a little old (November voting) but the message itself is as old as freedom loving America itself. Read what Charlton Heston has to say about preserving freedom with your vote in the President's Column over on the NRA page in the Extra department.

11-11: The SETI page over in the Hobbies department is updated today with the weeks results of slipping in the ratings. But more important is the "Give a Toy to a Veteran on Veteran Day" campaign I am founding. You can all start by sending me , a veteran, a bright shiny new toy. That way I can evaluate the effect of the campaign personally.

11-7: A West Plains Missouri woman breaks up a burglary ring, a Raleigh Tennessee homeowner ends the reign of terror of a career criminal, a 79 year old man stops a home invasion robbery. What do these people have in common? They are ordinary law abiding armed citizens defending their homes. Read about their heroics on the Armed Citizen page in the NRA section of the Extra department.

11-6: And today there is nothing fun either. I repaired some broken links here and there throughout the site but you'll thank me later when you click on a link and it works... OK you won't know it's fixed, but I can dream. If you guys notice a link not working the way you think it should or you get a 404 error, send me an email so I can fix it... K?

11-5: Sorry, no update today. I'm working on another site of mine, Forerunners, and that is burning up all my time. There is however still a Joke of the Weak.

11-4: My participation in the SETI@home project over in the Hobbies department had its third birthday .052 years ago that I failed to notice and report on here. In human terms that was on 10-17-02. Actually I can't claim all the credit, my wife and a couple of termites helped. You can consider this to be an inter-species attempt to detect an extraterrestrial species. My wife will be happy to explain the termites to you.

11-1: Today we kick the dust of October from our feet and move on to bigger and better things... er... Monday.

As usual, the Joke of the Weak is updated every weekday by 8AM PST and the SETI page is updated every Monday. The NRA pages President's Column, Standing Guard and Armed Citizen are updated each month.
