New this Week:
2-28: The Lynx page gets a facelift! It will now load 11K faster and not look so cluttered at the top. In addition I have visited every link to make sure that what is linked actually still exists! Sad to say, a couple of sites no longer are keeping up the good fight and have gone under in that sea of churning information that is the world wide web. Those links are gone but expects some new ones in the days ahead.
2-25: The SETI page over in the Hobbies department gets updated today. You can help out too and participate in the worlds largest distributed computing project. All the details are there. It just needs you to go do it.
2-22: The Hobbies page itself gets a face lift. Removed is some redundant material that rehashed, restated, and reiterated itself over and over and over repetitiously re-saying and reprising previously belabored stuff. Did I say I removed it? OK. The page is more streamlined, it will load faster and look better.
2-21: The Chile Facts page in the Chile Pepper section of the Hobbies department is updated with some interesting new information about the differences in the sensory perceptions between mammals and birds when it comes to chomping down on a lip blistering Chile.
2-20: The Extra page gets a face lift. I have removed a redundant graphic and improved an existing graphic on this page. The net effect is that the page will look better, at least more streamlined, and load faster. I get no thanks around here. Get a load of the date by the way, 02/20/2002. At 8:02PM tonight it becomes a palindrome when seen in Military time - 20:02 02/20/2002- The House of Wacks brings you that spiffy date at no extra charge.
2-19: The SETI page gets an update a day late due to the holidays. Even with an aging computer I have still done more work than 97.103% of the others! It is all on the SETI page in the Hobbies department.
2-18: It is Presidents' Day today. Until 1971, both February 12 and February 22 were observed as federal holidays to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (Feb. 12) and George Washington (Feb. 22). In 1971 President Richard Nixon proclaimed one single federal holiday, the Presidents' Day, to be observed on the third Monday of February, honoring all past presidents of the United States of America.
2-15: For the first time in American history a federal court of appeals has rendered a thorough, reasoned opinion on the Second Amendment in a case known as United States v: Emerson. The judges' decision: The Second Amendment guarantees exactly what it says — an individual right to keep and bear arms. Read about it in the President's Column over on the NRA page of the Extra department.
2-14: A poem for my loving wife on this, our Valentines day:
Roses are red,
2-13: The Marathon department gets some behind-the-scenes repairs so that if you access the Forge and Anvil tutorials via an outside link (out of frame link), you will now be able to click on the Marathon link from there and return to the main Marathon page and access all the rest of the Marathon material in that department. It was a huge undertaking but it didn't even cost you one taxpayer cent!!
2-12: With the anti-gunrights crowd and their political axis in Congress cashing in on "terrorism" as their new watchword for gun control, our liberties are at stake as never before. Read all about it on the Standing Guard feature of the NRA page in the Extra department.
2-8: Every now and then something obvious runs me over like I was a lizard on a warm road digesting a belly full of bugs. Color me road kill, I neglected to add the official Bungie Forge and Anvil manuals to the Forge and Anvil tutorials in the Marathon department. That is remedied today. Use it wisely young Padwan.
2-7: The Armed Citizen page of the NRA section in the Extra department is updated today. Check out how law abiding citizens protect themselves from the criminal element that the legal system is unable to keep at bay.
2-5: OK, I found the December 2001 news and I have updated the News Archives to link to it. Go check it out and see what you missed!
2-4: I have just passed one solid year of CPU processing time in my efforts with the SETI at home project. An entire years worth of spare time dedicated only to the crunching of numbers for SETI. Go see the computational carnage for yourself over on the SETI page in the Hobbies department.
2-1: It's Black History Month and today we celebrate the invention of the Drive-By Shooting! Hey guys, always remember to roll down those windows before hosing down the hood with small arms fire. Also, while archiving January news (see the "News Archives" link below this white box) I realized I had not archived last December! While I try to find that somewhere in a backup, you guys go ahead and enjoy February.
As usual, the Joke of the Weak is updated every weekday by 8AM PST and the SETI page is updated every Monday. The NRA pages President's Column, Standing Guard and Armed Citizen are updated each month.
